Hello, all. I know you all must have died of anticipation of my post about our vacation.
Well, we started out at about 9:30 on Friday, August 11. We drove along, listening to my dad talk about all the post offices he worked on aver the years. I thought about my good friend, also, when we passed the Sons of Norway Nordic Lodge (#544) and the Norseman Supper Club. We also passed two active Masonic Temples, one inactive one, and a Masonic Club. It was all we could do to stop Morena from Bursting through the car wall and barging in screaming "WHAT DO YOU DO!?!?!?!?!?!". Yep, business as usual.
Then, at about 3:30 or so, we arrived in Galena. It is beautiful. And historic. But it has changed slightly since last we visited. They closed one store and opened another 5 or so. That was also where the inactive Masonic temple was. Morena had a heart attack. She never should have seen "National Treasure" or that bloody special on the National Geographic channel. NEVER. But, back to the reality in which the Masons will never tell us what they do, we then drove around a little while waiting for my mom to finish checking us in. Then, we moved into the hotel room. And then, we did some stuff I, um, forgot about, but THEN we drove around some more, saw President Grant's house, and went to dinner. Not necessarily in that order. And then we went to sleep.
Then, on Saturday, we woke up and went to breakfast, came back, and stayed in the room for a while. We even viewed a parade. Then, we walked around Galena for a while, and found out that the only bloody place in all of Galena that sells swords sells every type of armament (EVEN automatic cap guns) except katanas, which was the only reason we went in. Bugger bugger bugger bugger. Anyways, we then went walking some more, everyone in my family but me got ice cream, my sisters shopped, then, we went to the Wal-Mart in the suburbs of dowtown. I got three VERY cool lego sets. And then we went to Mass. I love Mass at St. Micheal's. Then, my sister, My dad and I walked up these REALLY long stairs that we do every time (ain't traditions grand?), while my other sister and my mother went back to the hotel and then we joined them. I built my Legos while my family watched TV. I did that for, oh, 1 1/2, 2 hours, and then we went driving again. We do a lot of that. We even saw the new statue of Julia Dent Grant. And a sign for a Civil War encampment. Should I have mentioned that there were reenactors in the parade? Anyways, then we looked for the camp, but when we found it, their was no one in it. We DID, however, see some Union soldiers deserting and going to the Stillman Inn. Huh. Then we went back, got take-out, I built with my Legos some more (Until, um, 11:30...) while my sisters watched TV. And then, we all went to sleep.
After we woke up, we went to breakfast, went to some other stores, drove around and then, after much sadness, went home. Not much else happened.
And that is just about it. I hope you enjoyed the narrative. Bet it was like you were there.

It was just like being there....oh wait, I was!!!!! I loved the post and am so glad that you are back as a blogger -- I have really missed your posts!!!! I kept ckecking but never found a new one!!!! Glad you enjoyed the trip and found a few things to remind you of your good friend!!! It was fun to see those and Morena was a riot and a half with wanting to know what the Mason DO???? You're right, National Treasure may have been a mistake -- and now they are working on National Treasure II!!!!! Thanks for the update and I'll be watching and waiting for more!!!!
Yay Galena narrative!!! You covered it very well---like I was there. Hahahaha. I kill me.
Love your updates---keep 'em coming!!!
You left out the part about our evil plan to intercept the Masons by having me dress up as a man.
Boo.
I still absolutely CANNOT figure out what one does, exactly, at a Nordic Lodge.
